ANNAPOLIS, Md. – George Mason's Kaden Cassidy captured the 147-pound title at the 47th annual Navy Classic on Sunday at the Wesley A. Brown Field House in Annapolis.
Cassidy, ranked No. 18 nationally, earned an impressive 15-9 victory over No. 8 Kade Brown of Pittsburgh in the semifinals before winning 10-7 in the championship bout against Eugen Harney from Morgan State. The senior, 4-0, began the tournament with a major decision against Nathan Lucier from Binghamton before earning decision against Nebraska's Nicade Zinkin.
At 184 pounds,
Malachi DuVall turned in a strong performance to finish second overall. DuVall battled All-American Allred of Nebraska to overtime in the championship match, before falling 9-6. After defeating UVA's J. Lesher, 11-8, DuVall earned a dominant first-period fall (2:43) over American's C. Campos in the semifinals.
The Patriots
DJ McGee earned a fourth-place finish. The Junor finished the tournament with a 2-2 record, winning his first two matches.
The Navy Classic featured a competitive field including several nationally ranked programs and individuals, providing an early-season test for the Patriots.
The Patriots host the Mason Duals next Saturday, Nov. 8 beginning at 9 am.
