FAIRFAX, Va. – The George Mason women's tennis team rallied for a hard-fought 4-3 victory over Rider University on Saturday at the Mason Tennis Complex. The Patriots celebrated the win in front of alumni and supporters as part of the program's annual Alumni Day event.

George Mason jumped out to a 1-0 lead after capturing the doubles point with two victories. The pair of junior Brooklyn Siegel and sophomore Maya Bayat earned a 6-4 win at No. 2 against Dani Naves and Julie Kaiser. Senior Maitree Diksha Rout and junior Noelle Talarek clinched the point with a 6-4 win at No. 3 against Chloe Monachelli and Sofia Gutierrez.

"We often talk about the importance of winning the doubles point—today that turned out to be the catalyst to our victory," said Head Coach Steve Curtis.

In singles play, Rider leveled the match at 1-1 with a 7-5, 6-3 win at the No. 2 spot by Jolie Kaiser against Bayat. Talarek put the Patriots back in front with a 6-3, 6-0 victory at No. 4 against Sammy Killen. The Broncs responded with back-to-back wins to take a 3-2 lead. Junior Cenan Liu was defeated by Lisa Dierick 6-3, 6-3, and junior Mary Young was defeated by Dani Naves, 6-2, 6-2.
Sophomore Shivaani Ganesh delivered a strong performance at No. 6, earning a 7-5, 6-0 win against Chloe Monachelli to even the score. Siegel sealed the comeback for Mason with a 7-5, 6-3 victory at No. 5 over Elle Catanzarite, securing the 4-3 team win.


"I am happy with this team win today," Curtis added. "I am very proud of Noelle, Shivaani, and Brooklyn for pulling out their singles matches today."
