EARLYSVILLE, Va. – The George Mason University cross country teams concluded their 2025 campaign on Friday, competing against a deep and talented field at the NCAA Division I Southeast Regional Championships, hosted by the University of Virginia at Panorama Farms.
The men's team turned in a strong performance to finish 17th in the 33-team field, while the women's squad placed 20th overall.
Men's 10k Race Highlights
The Patriots' men's team was led by a pair of standout efforts from sophomore
Biruk Beardsley and senior
Lloyd Sheppard-Brown.
Beardsley continued his impressive season by finishing as George Mason's top runner, crossing the line in 48th place with a time of 30:50.7. Not far behind, Sheppard-Brown delivered a gritty performance to secure 55th place, clocking in at 30:59.1.
They were backed by a solid pack of Patriots. Sophomore
Luke Brown finished 114th (32:16.5), while senior Robert Jenkins placed 152nd (33:11.2). The team's scoring was rounded out by sophomore
Jackson Rowe in 132nd place (32:47.4), cementing the 17th-place team finish in a highly competitive region.
Women's 6k Race Highlights
On the women's side, the Patriots were led by a stellar run from senior
Ella Semple. Semple battled at the front of the pack throughout the 6k course, ultimately finishing in the top-20 in a field of over 250 runners. Her 20th-place finish with a time of 19:58.8 capped a brilliant collegiate cross country career.
The Patriots demonstrated promising depth behind their leader. Junior
Sarah Clark was the team's second scorer, placing 117th (21:48.9). Senior Mc
Kenzie Dillman (193rd, 23:05.8) and junior
Aylin Yirmibesoglu (157th, 22:31.4) provided key scoring efforts, while sophomore
Ellie Desmond (142nd, 22:15.2) rounded out the team's top five to secure the 20th-place finish.
The meet likely concludes the 2025 cross country season for the Patriots. The teams will now transition their focus to the upcoming indoor track & field season.
