FAIRFAX, Va. – George Mason redshirt junior
Evan Maag has been named the Mid-American Conference (MAC) East Wrestler of the Week after an outstanding performance at the Mason Duals on Saturday.
Competing at 165 pounds, Maag went 2-0 on the day with both victories coming by bonus points. He opened with a first-period fall (1:58) over Campbell's Kendrick Hodge, helping spark the Patriots to a dominant 34-13 team victory.
Maag followed that up with one of the top performances of the weekend, earning a 10-2 major decision over No. 10-ranked Thomas Snipes of The Citadel. Maag scored a key takedown late in the second period and sealed the upset with another in the closing seconds of the third. His win propelled Mason to a 26-16 dual victory over The Citadel.
Maag shared the award with Rider's Tyler Klinsky. The honor marks the first MAC Wrestler of the Week award this season for the Patriots.
George Mason returns to action this weekend at two tournaments, at the Shorty Hitchcock and the Black Knight Army Open.
