FAIRFAX – After winning his first collegiate tournament, George Mason sophomore
Vaughn McMeans earned the Atlantic 10 Golfer of the Week honors.
The sophomore etched his name into the Patriots record book earning his first collegiate tournament victory at the
Second Annual Nemacolin Collegiate Invitational at Mystic Rock Golf Course. He shot rounds of 71-67-67=205 to finish 11-under-par and earn co-medalist honors with defending champion Kaleb Wilson from West Virginia. The Leesburg, Virginia native entered Tuesday's final round two strokes behind Wilson but McMeans delivered a composed performance down the stretch, earning three birdies in the final four holes.
The 54-hole score marks one of the best showings in Mason golf history as the third lowest score relative to par ever recorded by an individual Patriot behind Mike Kirby (-16) and
Samir Davidov (-12).
This is McMeans first A-10 Golfer of the Week honor. The sophomore had three A-10 Rookie of the Week honors last season.
