FAIRFAX, Va. – George Mason University softball head coach Justin Walker has named Nicole Giery as the new infield coach.
"We're thrilled to add Nicole to the Mason Softball family," said Walker. "Her passion, energy, and character align perfectly with the culture we're building. She's going to bring great value to our student-athletes and help continue pushing our program forward."
Giery joins the Patriots after a season with Georgetown University Baseball. Following her collegiate career in 2024, Giery broke new ground as an infield coach and hitting assistant for the Hoyas, becoming one of the first women to serve as an on-field coach in Division 1 baseball history.
"Thank you, Coach Walker and the entire administration, for welcoming me into your program," Giery said. "I'm truly excited to continue creating a positive and uplifting experience for these young women. It's an honor to be part of such a supportive and inspiring culture with talented student-athletes and staff."
In addition to her collegiate coaching role, Nicole has provided private hitting and infield lessons at Rip City Baseball facility where she continues to develop young athletes.
Giery played collegiate softball at Boston College, where she was a four-year starter at shortstop and third base. Giery holds BC's all-time single-season and career records for doubles and led the team in batting average for two consecutive years (2023, 2024).
In 2024, Giery hit .341, earning Most Outstanding Offensive player honors for Boston College. She delivered in the ACC Tournament, including a 3-for-5 performance in a 10-inning game versus Duke and a game-winning double against Syracuse to help send the Eagles to their first ACC quarterfinals in 16 years (since 2008). She assisted the team to the tournament with home runs against Florida State, Notre Dame, and Louisville. Giery also served as the team's assistant captain during her senior season.
Additionally, Giery excelled academically at Boston College's Carroll School of Management with a concentration in Management and Leadership. She earned a place on the All ACC-Academic Honor Roll (2021-2024) and the All ACC-Academic Team (2023-2024). She also holds Graduate Certificates in Team Communications & Negotiations, and Leading Project Teams from Georgetown University School of Continuing Studies.
Nationally recognized for her academic and athletic excellence, Giery was a two-time NFCA High School All-American Scholar-Athlete, three-time First Team All-Conference selection, two-time All-Region honoree, two-time 6A Virginia State Champion, and a member of the 2018 Madison High School team that finished with a perfect 28-0 record.
