Fairfax, Va. -- George Mason University and women's lacrosse head coach
Kara Mupo reached an agreement on a contract extension through the 2027 season announced today by Assistant Vice President/Director of Athletics Marvin Lewis.
The extension comes after four years of work that culminated in one of the most successful regular seasons to date for the George Mason women's lacrosse team. After a historic 6-0 start to the season, the Patriots won 10 games and earned a spot in the quarterfinals at the Atlantic 10 Women's Lacrosse Championship for the first time since 2019.
"We are excited to have Kara continue to lead our women's lacrosse program," said Lewis. "Kara is a tireless worker and fierce competitor, who has helped elevate our program to new heights this past season. Her student-centered approach and commitment to developing a championship culture has positioned our women's lacrosse program to achieve sustained success in the competitive A-10 conference."
Mupo coached three players to Atlantic 10 postseason honors in 2024, highlighted by a first team honor for graduate student
Shannon Tuozzo. Tuozzo was joined by
Daniella Jimenez (Rookie Team) and graduate student
Morgan Gunn (Academic Team) on postseason teams for the first time in their respective careers. It marks the second consecutive year that a Patriot has been named to the All-Academic Team and the most honors in a single season since 2021 when they placed four on postseason teams.
"I want to thank Marvin Lewis and Nena Rogers for their continued support and shared vision for the future of our program," said head coach
Kara Mupo. "The 2024 season laid a strong foundation for our returning and future student athletes to build on as we aspire to reach new heights in the A-10 conference and non-conference play.
For the first time since 2019, the George Mason women's lacrosse team also earned an appearance in the Atlantic 10 postseason. The Patriots finished the A-10 regular season with wins over La Salle, Duquesne, George Washington and St. Bonaventure.
"Mason Nation is a very special place, and I am beyond grateful to have the opportunity to work with some of the best in the business when it comes to developing our student athletes on and off the field," added Mupo.
