CSCAA Individual Scholar All-Americans
FAIRFAX, Va. – The George Mason men's and women's swimming and diving programs have been selected as Scholar All-American teams by the College Swimming and Diving Coaches Association of America (CSCAA).
To qualify for recognition, teams had to earn a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 during the Spring 2024 semester. The Mason women's team posted a 3.50 GPA and the men's team had a 3.00 GPA.
Ali Tyler and
Tate Anderson both earned individual scholar athlete second-team honors (3.50 GPA and NCAA B cut).
Tyler won six medals at the 2024 Atlantic 10 Championships with three individual A-10 championships and three relay medals (1 silver, 2 bronze). She won the A10 title in the 100-yard backstroke for the third straight year with a NCAA B time (53.48), claimed the A-10 title in the 50-yard freestyle for the third straight year (22.78) and won the A-10 championship in the 100-yard freestyle with a NCAA B time (48.84).
Tyler helped the Patriots to the silver in the 400-yard freestyle relay (3:19.37) and the bronze in both the 200-yard freestyle relay (1:31.57) and 400-yard medley relay (3:39.96).
A forensic science major, Tyler recorded 24 top-three performances (most on team), with 13 individual first place, seven individual second place and four individual third place finishes.
Anderson won five medals at the 2024 Atlantic 10 Championships with three individual medals (1 gold, 1 silver, 1 bronze) and two relay medals (1 silver, 1 bronze). He won the A-10 title in the 200-yard backstroke (1:44.52), claimed the silver medal in the 200-yard IM (1:46.75) and took the bronze in the 200-yard freestyle (1:35.17).
Anderson also helped the Patriots to a silver medal in the 800-yard freestyle relay (6:26.37) and a bronze medal in the 200-yard freestyle relay (1:19.66).
A community health major, Anderson recorded 21 top-three performances during the season (most on the team) with 14 individual first place, five individual second place and two individual third place finishes during the 2023-24 campaign. He led the team in first first-place finishes (14) and points (242.50).
The College Swimming and Diving Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) selected 722 teams and 17,162 student athletes to the Scholar All-America Team for the Spring 2024 semester.
To be named to the First-Team Scholar All-America, student-athletes must achieve a minimum GPA of 3.50 and participate in their respective national championship. Second-Team selections also earned a GPA of 3.50 or higher and met the "B" time standard for the national championship or participated in a diving zone qualification meet.
