FAIRFAX, Va. – George Mason alums Danny Hosley and
South Trimble will take the field at Nationals Park in Washington, D.C. on Saturday, July 13 with the Banana Ball World Tour.
Adam Virant, who played baseball at George Mason in 1996, is Director of Baseball Operations and an assistant coach with the Bananas.
Hosley is in his third year with the Bananas and Trimble is in his first year with The Firefighters.
The
Banana Ball World Tour game at Nationals Park is the third of six games that the Banana Ball World Tour will play in a Big League stadium. The Banana Ball World Tour has played at Minute Maid Park in Houston, Tx. and Fenway Park in Boston, Mass.
With a capacity of 41,546, Nationals Park is the second-largest stadium on the tour and will be the first time Banana Ball's newest team, The Firefighters, will play in an MLB stadium.
Trimble, a native of Virginia Beach, Va., started 188 of 190 games over his five years with the Patriots with a .311 average, 228 hits, 110 RBI, 172 runs scored and 92 stolen bases.
His 92 stolen bases are second-most on the Patriots all-time list. Trimble also ranks in the top-20 in program history in runs scored (7
th), hits (13
th), at-bats (13
th), games started (15
th) and doubles (16
th).
"As a kid you dream of a moment like this," Trimble said. "Playing in a major league park in front of a sold out crowd. It's something that is so surreal and I'm grateful for being able to fulfill this dream on mine at Nationals Park, a stadium I've been to countless times as a kid, watching my favorite ballplayers play and now I get to experience it first-hand. I'm excited for the crowd to see what Banana Ball is and how it is truly amazing."
Hosley, a native of Vienna, Va., started 45 games for the Patriots with four home runs, 30 RBI and 24 runs scored during the 2022 season. He also made 11 appearances on the mound with five starts.
"It's been an unreal experience playing with the Bananas up to this point," Hosley said. "This weekend has been circled on my calendar since the schedule came out. There will be friends and family in the stands who have supported me since little league. I can't wait for the opportunity to be able to showcase what Banana Ball is all about."
Virant, joined the Bananas as an Assistant Coach in 2021 for the One City World tour and then returned in 2022 as the manager of the Party Animals. Virant then joined the Bananas full-time in 2023 as the Director of Baseball Operations and Associate Head Coach.
