PITTSBURGH, Pa. – The George Mason women's lacrosse team's historic season came to an end on Thursday afternoon at the hands of third-seeded Davidson, 17-4, in the opening round of the Atlantic 10 Tournament.
The Patriots (10-8) were led on offense by freshman and All-Rookie honoree
Daniella Jimenez, who scored two goals, and sophomore
Peyton Farley who also tallied two points on a goal and an assist.
The Davidson defense proved to be the difference as it held Mason scoreless through the opening 20 minutes to build a 7-0 lead. Jimenez scored both of her goals in the second quarter as Davidson led 12-2 at the half.
The Wildcats (11-6) were contained on the offensive end in the second half, as sophomore
Regan Bestick checked in to the goal for Mason, making three saves and allowing just five goals.
Farley notched her goal in the third and assisted on graduate student
Shannon Tuozzo's lone goal of the afternoon in the fourth. Tuozzo had a well-rounded game highlighted by a defensive effort with four draw controls, two caused turnovers and two ground balls. Her four draw controls push her season tally to 100, as she becomes just the second player in program history to eclipse 100 in a single season.
Despite the loss, it was still an immensely successful season. The Patriots tallied double-digit wins and saw an appearance in the post season for the first time since 2019.
