LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) announced its DI All-Region teams Saturday afternoon, and George Mason graduate student shortstop
Rachel Warrens was named to the All-Mid-Atlantic Third Team. It is Warrens' first-ever all-region award from the NFCA.
From the NFCA: "The awards honor softball student-athletes from the Association's 10 regions with first, second and third-team selections. NFCA member head coaches from each respective region nominated student-athletes (eight maximum) and voted for the teams. All awarded student-athletes now become eligible for the 2024 NFCA Division I All-America squads."
Warrens was the only selection from George Mason and was one of 376 Division I student-athletes who garnered this year's award.
On the field this season, the San Diego, Calif., native started in 50 games and slashed a career-high in all three batting categories (AVG / OB% / SLG), going .333 / .389 / .482. Warrens also recorded career highs in hits (56) as well as triples (5) and had a career-high 14-game hitting streak from March 8 to March 29.
As well as being a part of a dynamic Patriot infield that turned the most double plays in the Atlantic 10 this season, Warrens finished in the top 10 in the conference in multiple individual statistical categories at the end of the regular season. She was top of the conference in assists (129) & triples (5), second in hits (56) & defensive double plays (21), fifth in stolen bases (17), seventh in total bases (81), eighth in doubles (12) and 10
th in runs scored (31).
Within George Mason, she led the team in batting average, slugging, OPS (.871), runs, doubles, triples and stolen bases.
For her career, Warrens has etched herself in the George Mason record books. She is in the top 10 in the following Patriot all-time lists:
- 2nd: Doubles (49, tied)
- 3rd: Games Played (213) & Games Started (211, tied)
- 4th: At-bats (644)
- 5th: Runs scored (116, tied), Hits (196), Stolen bases (61)
- 6th: Runs batted in (101), Assists (382)
- 8th: Triples (11)
A three-time Easton/NFCA All-America Scholar Athlete, Warrens graduated this May with a Bachelor of Science in sport management with a minor in coaching. She also graduated with a master's in sport and recreation with a concentration in sport management. She plans on becoming a softball coach in the future.
