Five Patriots to Compete in the Track and Field NCAA First Round

Fairfax, Va.- The NCAA has released the final list for the athletes who will be competing in the NCAA First Round and George Mason will have five representatives. Kelsey Sebwe, Arsalan Yaqubi, Geni Roberts, Bobby Kestyn, and Walt Bannerman have all qualified for the NCAA First Round and will be looking forwards to qualify even further. 
 
Kelsey Sebwe will be competing in the triple jump after finishing in 46th in the East region to qualify for the First Round. Her score of 12.62m was achieved on the final meet of the season, the IC4A/ECAC Championships that was hosted by George Mason. A lot of pressure was on the shoulders of Kelsey during her attempts in the triple jump. When she reached her new personal best, you could hear the fans cheering loudly knowing that she has made it to the next round. 
 
Geni Roberts has also made it to the NCAA First Round to compete in the triple jump. His attempt of 15.51m was enough to place him 31st in all of the East region to qualify for the next round. The jump was secured at the USC Open where Geni placed second, but Roberts has been in hot form in the triple jump after achieving the gold medal at the A10 Championships as well. 
 
Arsalan Yaqubi is having an amazing season and he was awarded a spot in the First Round to compete in the hammer throw. Arsalan is also in a hot streak with two record breaking weekends at the A10 Championships and the IC4A/ECAC Championships. Arsalan earned the gold medal at the A10 Championships after breaking the school record for the hammer throw, but he was not satisfied with the mark of 61.40m. He came out the next weekend to compete in the IC4A/ECAC Championships and he broke his own record with a new personal best of 61.65m which places him at 42nd in all of the East region.
 
Bobby Kestyn had an immense season, breaking school records and winning many awards. Bobby will be competing in the discus throw after securing a mark of 55.20m at the Ebanks Invitational. His score placed him at 36th in the East region. Dominant performances from Bobby were on display for most of the outdoor season beginning at the Bob Davidson Challenge where Bobby originally broke the school record for discus. Bobby broke the school record once again, and a new personal best in Fairfax where he threw the discus for 55.20m. Kestyn earned gold at the A10 Championships and was named the Most Outstanding Field Performer. Bobby wanted more and came out the next weekend to earn the title of champion in the discus at the IC4A/ECAC Championships. 
 
Walt Bannerman has proven to be a fierce competitor at pole vault, securing his spot in the NCAA First Roud after achieving a new personal of 5.20m at the A10 Championships. His score placed him in 36th in the East region. Walt Bannerman has been consistent winning gold in the A10 Outdoor and Indoor Championships, his next step is the NCAA First Round. 
 
Arsalan Yaqubi and Walt Bannerman will be competing on Wednesday, March 22nd. Bobby Kestyn and Geni Roberts hop into action on Friday, March 24th with Kelsey Sebwe entering the competition on Saturday, March 25th.
