Day 1 of IC4A/ECAC Championships Completed

Fairfax, Va.- George Mason began the competition on Friday with Arsalan Yaqubi and Bobby Kestyn included in the top eight spots in the hammer throw. Arsalan Yaqubi broke the school record once again reaching a new mark 61.65m. Bobby Kestyn finished in 7th with a mark of 60.29m and they both brought in six points for the Patriots. 

Joseph Queen was the first champion for George Mason after securing first place in the 800m run by a far distance. Joseph completed the race with a new personal best of 1:48.75 and was officially named the IC4A 800m Champion. 
 
Olamide Enajekpo competed in the women's hammer throw on Saturday and achieved the first few points for the Patriots finishing in sixth with a mark of 51.55m. Kenzie Dillman had an immense showing finishing in third with a time of 4:33.18 in the women's 1500m race. Jalen Johnson qualified for the finals in the men's 100m sprint after going through two rounds and securing a personal best of 10.56. Albert Asare also topped his group to qualify for the next round in the 110m hurdles. Dean Johnson was not top of his group but his time was good enough to make it to the next round as well for the 110m hurdles.
 
Henrike Fiedler finished in fourth for the long jump with Kailynn Tyson right behind in fifth, both were given a medal for finishing among the top 6 within the long jumpers. Nourene Nabbus achieved a new personal best in the 3000m steeplechase with a time of 10:56.86, a record she has been fighting for all season. The long-distance runners continued their dominance with Kate O'Neill finishing in second in the 5,000m run with a time of 17:13.23. Mason Love ran the track with intent to finish among the first three for the 10,000m run. Mason ran in fourth for majority of the race until the final laps where he closed the gap and eventually made a final sprint to surpass the runner in front of him, Mason achieved the bronze medal and achieved a new personal best of 29:35.85 which placed him in 2nd in program history jumping over Jack Ikenberry
 
George Mason will continue to compete in the IC4A/ECAC Championships tomorrow starting at 10 am with the women's discus starting the competition. The first running event will begin at 11:10 am with the men's 4x100m relay and the final event of the meet will be the women's 4x400m relay to conclude the final home meet of the season.
