Game Recap: Softball |

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – The George Mason softball team (11-26, 3-9 A-10) were walked off by Saint Joseph's (16-17, 10-2) 4-3 in Sunday's series finale at the SJU Softball Field. The Patriots suffered their first conference series sweep this season and were handed their fourth series loss.

PATRIOT HIGHLIGHTS

  • Marlaina Bozek hit her first home run of the season in the top of the third inning to tie the game at 1-1.

  • Saint Joseph's took the lead with a solo home run in the bottom of the third, the Hawks kept the lead until the top of the seventh inning.

  • With two outs and a runner on first, Logan Pickford hit a two-run home run to give Mason a 3-2 lead.

  • Mason could not hold lead in the bottom of the seventh, as the Hawks were able to score two runs and walk off the Patriots 4-3.

Sunday's game featured four total home runs, with both teams hitting two each throughout the game. Hawks took an early lead in the bottom of the first inning on a bases-loaded walk drawn by Haley McMenamin (0-2, RBI, BB).

Mason would tie the game in the top of the third inning, however. Marlaina Bozek (2-3, 2 R, RBI, HR) hit her first home run of the season with a solo shot to center field.

Saint Joseph's quickly retook the lead in the bottom of the third with a solo home run of their own. Riley York (2-3, R, 2 RBI, 2B, HR, BB) hit the team's first homer of the day to left field.

The score would remain 2-1 until the top of the seventh inning. With Bozek on first and with two outs, Logan Pickford (1-4, R, 2 RBI, HR) hit Mason's second home run of the game to center field. The Patriots had a 3-2 lead going in to the bottom half of the seventh.

Unfortunately for the Patriots, Saint Joseph's made a two-run rally to walk off the Patriots. With one out, the Hawks first tied the game with a Sarah Cancila (1-3, 2 R, RBI, HR, BB) solo home run to left center. The very next at-bat, Hailey Malito (2-3, R, BB, SB) drew a walk and advanced to second on a wild pitch to put the Hawks in scoring position. Then York recorded her second RBI of the afternoon with a game-ending double to right, scoring Malito and completing the three-game sweep.
