AMHERST, Mass. – The George Mason softball team (14-27, 5-10 A-10) lost 2-1 to Massachusetts (12-26, 8-7 A-10) in Sunday's finale at Sortino Field. The Patriots still won the series, as they won both Saturday games the day prior.

-
Sydney Bales went 2-for-3 again, recording her third consecutive multi-hit game.
-
In the series, Mason out-hit UMass in hits (28 to 18), doubles (6 to 5) triples (1 to 0) and home runs (3 to 2), as well as having a better slash line (.322 / .386 / .517 to .234 / .379 / .377).
GEORGE MASON 1, UMASS 2
Sunday's game featured a low-scoring game that involved a pitchers' duel between Mason's Jordan Tallman (4.0 IP, 3 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 3 BB, 3 K) and UMass's Hannah Streicher (7.0 IP, 4 H, 1 R, 0 ER, 4 BB, 5 K). Carly Cooper (2.0 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 1 K) would come in to pitch in relief starting in the fifth inning and did not allow a hit in her two innings of work.
The game would remain scoreless for the first three and a half innings. In the bottom of the fourth inning, UMass would break the deadlock and score two runs.
The Minutewomen put two runners aboard with back-to-back walks to start the inning, and after a subsequent ground out and strikeout, there were runners on second and third. With two out, Jordyn Graime (1-3, 2 RBI) sharply hit a ball to short that just got past the lunging Rachel Warrens (0-4, R), scoring both runners.
The Patriots would cut the UMass lead in half in the top of the fifth inning. After Warrens got on base with a two-base error from the UMass left fielder, Marlaina Bozek (1-3, RBI, BB) hit her team-leading fourth RBI of the weekend with a single to left.
Unfortunately for the Patriots, that would be the only run scored on the afternoon, and the Minutewomen would hold on to the 2-1 scoreline to take the Sunday rubber match.
The only Patriot to record a multi-hit game was
Sydney Bales (2-3), whose two hits marked her third consecutive multi-hit game. The senior finished this week going 8-for-13 (.615) with a home run, two RBI, two doubles, a triple, a .643 on-base percentage and a 1.154 slugging percentage.
