CONWAY, S.C. – The George Mason softball team (7-13) was shutout by Boston (16-1) 2-0 in the Saturday installment of the Beach Chicken Brawl in Conway, S.C., held in St. John Stadium.
The Patriots started the game with a
Rachel Warrens (1-3) leadoff single, but they could not capitalize. Similarly, the Terriers had a triple in the bottom of the first inning, but starting pitcher
Jordan Tallman (6.0 IP, 2 R, 1 ER, 2 K) and the Patriot defense were able to keep a clean frame. Tallman would pitch the entire game and strike out two batters. Only one of her two runs given up were earned.
The Patriots would have runners on the corners with one out in the top of the second, which included a
Logan Pickford (1-3) single, but they were ultimately stranded.
Boston would score in the top of the bottom of the second inning when Brooke Deppiesse hit an RBI single which scored Kylie Doherty from third.
In the top of the fifth,
Kamryn Inman (1-3, 2 SB) was able to get on base with a single and would later steal the next two bases. Unfortunately, the inning ended with a
Rachel Warrens (1-3) lineout to the pitcher.
In the bottom of the inning Kayla Roncin scored an unearned run off a Mason fielding error, extending the Terrier lead to 2-0. The score would remain the same
