CONWAY, S.C. – The George Mason softball team (7-12) lost to Boston (15-1) and Coastal Carolina (15-6) in the first day of the Beach Chicken Brawl held at St. John Stadium in Conway, S.C.
PATRIOT HIGHLIGHTS
- Freshman Emily Lampela hit her first career home run in the bottom of the second inning of the Boston game.
- Marlaina Bozek extended her hitting streak to nine games by recording a single in the Boston game. Her streak would be snapped, however, in the Coastal Carolina game.
GEORGE MASON 1, BOSTON 5
In the first game, the Patriots and Terriers went out in order in the first inning, but the Terriers would score first.
In the top of the second inning, Lizzie Avery led off with a walk. After a fielding error and a groundout, Avery scored on a Livia Christopher RBI single.
In the bottom of the second, freshman Emily Lampela (1-2, HR) hit her first career home run with one out in the inning. The Alexandria, Va., native's shot went over the left field wall.
Unfortunately for the Patriots, the Terriers responded in the top of the third inning with four runs. With the bases loaded, Boston scored on a Kate Pryor RBI single, a Brooke Deppiesse sacrifice fly RBI and a Lauren Nett two-RBI single. At the end of the inning, Boston retook the lead with a 5-1 score.
Marlaina Bozek (1-3) extended her hitting streak to nine games after hitting a single to right center in the bottom of the fourth inning.
The score would remain 5-1 for the rest of the game.
GEORGE MASON 0, COASTAL CAROLINA 7
In the second game, the Patriots were blanked by the Chanticleers. Coastal Carolina scored one run in the first, third and sixth innings.
The game was broken wide open in the third inning, when the Chanticleers scored four runs. The inning started with a Delaney Keith lead off home run, followed by a bases-loaded RBI single by Ava Hampton that scored two runs. The final run was scored by a Brie Normandin fielder's choice that scored Libby Pippin.

The Patriots will face the Terriers and Chanticleers again tomorrow in the Beach Chicken Brawl. Mason will first face Boston at 10 am, followed by host Coastal Carolina at 3:30 p.m.
