Box Score PHILADELPHIA - The George Mason University men's tennis team (6-9, 2-0) won its second-straight A-10 contest of the weekend with a 4-2 triumph over St. Bonaventure on Saturday morning at the SJU Tennis Complex.
It's the first time the Green & Gold have started A-10 play 2-0 in program history.
Mason dropped the doubles point, but won four of five singles matches contested to pick up the victory.
In doubles, the Patriots did earn a victory at No. 1, courtesy of sophomore
Monil Lotlikar and junior
Niza Simunyola. The duo took down SBU's Graham/Lochlin duo, 6-1, to improve to 9-3 in dual action.
The Green & Gold tied up the score at 1-1 after a victory by Simunyola at No. 3. He took a 6-3, 6-4 victory over Hugo Cochlin.
Mason went up 2-1 courtesy of Arends, who won a nailbiter over Anargha Ganguly. Arends won a first set tiebreaker, 7-5, then claimed the second 7-5.
Then, Lotlikar improved to 2-0 in A-10 play with a three-set victory over Archie Graham. Lotlikar won the first set, 6-4, dropped the second, 2-6, then rebounded with a strong 6-2 triumph in the third to give Mason the 3-1 edge.
The Bonnies took No. 4 to cut the Patriot edge to 3-2, but sophomore
Alvaro Pedraza clinched the match with his second A-10 win at No. 2. Pedraza claimed the first set, 6-4, then won the second, 7-5, over Jean Marrero.
Next up for the Patriots, George Mason hosts Shenandoah Tuesday at 3 p.m. at the Mason Tennis Courts.
