GAME ONE: GEORGE MASON 2, FORDHAM 0
The Patriots and the Rams held each other scoreless for the first two innings of the game. Mason would strike first in the bottom of the third inning with a Marlaina Bozek (1-3, RBI) RBI single to left center, scoring Rachel Warrens (2-3, R, RBI, 2B SB) from second.
The Patriot defense denied the Rams the opportunity to score runs twice in the top of the fourth inning. With one out and a runner on first, Fordham's Giana Sarlo (1-3, 2B) hit a double to right center, but the relay from center fielder Emily Lampela (1-2, 2B, HBP) to second baseman Bozek to catcher Logan Pickford (0-1, R, BB) perfectly caught Allie Clark (0-2, BB) sliding at home.
To end the inning, Kate McGuire (0-3) lined to center field, where Lampela made a diving catch.
The Patriots extended their lead in the top of the fifth with a Warrens double to left center which scored the speedy Pickford all the way from first. The graduate student shortstop also extended her hitting streak to a career-high 14 games.
Starting pitcher
Carly Cooper (6.0 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 5 BB 5 K) earned her fifth win of the season after she pitched six solid innings and recorded five strikeouts.
Jordan Tallman (1.0 IP, 0 R) came in relief at the start of the seventh inning and tossed a 1-2-3 inning. Tallman secured her first save of her career.
GAME TWO: GEORGE MASON 1, FORDHAM 10 (5 INNINGS)
In Game Two, the bats of the Rams came alive, as they scored one run in the first inning, five in the fourth and four more in the fifth. The Patriots could only score one run in the bottom of the fifth inning, and the game was called on account of the Run-Ahead rule.
The Patriot defense made an impressive play on the very first pitch of the game, as Bailey Enoch's (1-3, 2 R, RBI, 2B, BB) hardly hit ball landed right into the glove of third baseman
Kamryn Inman (0-2).
The Rams broke the game wide open in the top of the fourth inning, where they batted around and scored five runs. The inning started with a leadoff home run by Eva Koratsis (2-3, R, RBI, HR) and followed with a Kate McGuire (1-2, 2 R, RBI, BB) RBI single, a Bailey Enoch (1-3, 2 R, RBI, 2B, BB) RBI double, a Sydney Wells (2-4, 3 RBI) bases-loaded RBI single, a Nicki Sudall (1-3, 2 RBI) sacrifice fly.
Four more runs were scored in the top of the fifth with a Gianna Sarlo (1-2, R, RBI, 2B) RBI double to left, a Neleh Nogay (0-1, R, RBI) bases loaded walk and another Wells knock with the bases loaded - this time a two run double to left center.
The only Patriot run was scored in the bottom of the fifth inning. After
Rachel Warrens (0-2, BB) drew a two-out walk,
Marlaina Bozek (1-3, RBI, 3B) dropped an RBI triple to right.
Since the Patriots were trailing by more than eight runs after the fifth inning, the game was officially called, meaning Warrens' 14-game hit streak was snapped.
