PHILADELPHIA – The George Mason University men's tennis team began its four-match conference slate with an impressive 4-0 road win at Saint Joseph's on Friday afternoon at the SJU Tennis Complex.
The Green & Gold won two of three doubles matches before capturing the first three singles contests to clinch the victory.
In doubles, the Patriots picked up wins at No. 2 and No. 3 to earn the first point. At No. 2, junior
Jacco Arends and graduate student
Momin Khan captured a 6-4 victory over SJU's Butler/Gan-Dy duo.
Meanwhile at No. 3, junior
Dustin Ha and sophomore
Alvaro Pedraza improved to 6-4 in dual action with a triumph over Justus Agbo and Stergios Papadopoulos. Mason's pair won by a score of 6-4.
In singles, the Patriots received outstanding contributions from the No. 5 and No. 6 spots. At No. 5, sophomore
Zavan Fahim gave Mason a 2-0 lead with a dominant 6-2, 6-2 win over Jack Campbell.
At No. 6, Pedraza also cruised over Mark Rubin, taking the first set, 6-2, and the second, 6-1.
With Mason ahead, 3-0, sophomore ace
Monil Lotlikar clinched the match with a win over Agbo. Lotlikar won the first set, 6-2, then swept a tiebreaker (7-0) in the second to give the Patriots their first win of the weekend.
Mason also held one set leads at No. 2 and No. 3 singles when the match was called.
The Patriots wrap up their A-10 weekend with a neutral site affair in Philly on Saturday vs. St. Bonaventure. First serve is set for 11 a.m.
