FAIRFAX, Va. – The George Mason University men's tennis team played its first nationally-ranked foe in four seasons and played No. 44 Delaware tough during a 4-0 setback at the Mason Tennis Courts on Friday afternoon.
Four of the six singles matches in the match went to three sets, including three unfinished at the contest's conclusion.
At No. 2 singles, junior
Jacco Arends was locked in a barn burner. He dropped the first set to Javier Ruiz, 3-6, but bounced back to win the second, 7-5. The two opponents were tied at 1-1 in the third when the match was called.
Elsewhere at No. 4, graduate student
Momin Khan won his first set, 6-3, dropped the second, 3-6, but held a 2-0 edge against Alexandre Gluck when the match wrapped up.
Sophomore
Zavan Fahim also led in his match when it was called. He took the first over Euan Mackenzie, 6-4, dropped the second, 3-6 and was leading in the third, 5-4.
The Patriots' home match scheduled for Saturday (March 23) has been moved to Annapolis, Md., due to potential inclement weather. George Mason will play Boston University at 3:30 p.m.
