FAIRFAX, Va. – Redshirt sophomore starter

Logan Rumberg combined on a three-hit, 8-0 shutout win over Fairfield in the middle game of the series on Saturday afternoon at Spuhler Field.
Mason (4-6) took the lead over Fairfield (0-8) in the bottom of the second.
Junior first baseman
Reece Woody and graduate student catcher
Socrates Bardatsos each walked to start the inning. Junior designated hitter
Connor Dykstra then singled through the left side, with Woody racing around from second to put the Patriots in front, 1-0.
With one out in the bottom of the third, sophomore right fielder
James Quinn-Irons hit a solo home run to left-center to make it a 2-0 game.
In the bottom of the fourth, Dykstra led off with a walk and sophomore third baseman
Evan Blanchard followed with a single down the left field line. With one out, graduate student second baseman
South Trimble singled up the middle to plate Blanchard to extend the lead to 3-0.
With two outs in the home half of the fifth, Bardatsos smashed a solo home run over the left field fence to pad the advantage to 4-0.
With two on and two out in the bottom of the sixth, Quinn-Irons hit a three-run home run to right center to make it 7-0 Patriots.
In the bottom of the seventh, Bardatsos led off with a single and Dykstra walked. After a sacrifice bunt by Blanchard moved both baserunners into scoring position, junior shortstop
Carsen Pracht plated the final run of the game with a sacrifice fly to center for the 8-0 final.
Eaton (1-1) tossed 5.0 scoreless innings while Rumberg pitched 4.0 scoreless frames.
The Patriots and Stags play the final game of the series on Sunday with the first pitch scheduled for noon at Spuhler Field.
