Morgan Gunn opened the scoring for Mason in the second just over a minute in to the second quarter, but VCU again responded with two goals to lead 9-5 with 11:22 remaining. The Patriots scored three over the next four to cut the lead back to two, 10-8, with 47 seconds remaining in the half, but VCU scored with just six seconds remaining to regain momentum into the break.

The Rams opened the third quarter with six-straight goals to push the lead to 17-8 at the 8:26 mark of the third, before back-to-back goals from Trippel and Chloe Reed brought Mason into double-figures. However, VCU scored seven of the last nine goals of the game en route to the 24-12 victory.
