FARMVILLE, Va. - Despite a career-high four goals from
Peyton Farley, the George Mason women's lacrosse team fell to Longwood, 10-7, to close out its' non-conference schedule.
Farley's four goals marked a career-high as she went 4-4 on shooting opportunities. The performance also marked the first hat-trick of her career and is the sixth multi-goal game of the season.
Both teams played strong defense in the opening frame, as the Lancers (2-4) took a 1-0 lead into the second quarter, scoring the lone goal of the frame with one minute remaining. The Patriots (6-3, 1-0) tied the game at one-a-piece just over two minutes into the second on a free position goal from
Riley Ellis, but Longwood responded with five-straight tallies to lead 6-1 at halftime.
Mason took advantage of a power-play opportunity 45 seconds into the third quarter, but Longwood responded to push the lead back to five. The Patriots scored four of the next five goals spanning the end of the third and beginning of the fourth to cut the lead to just two (8-6) with 6:36 remaining in the game, but the Lancers scored two of the final three to hold off the Patriots' comeback.
