RALEIGH, N.C. – The George Mason softball team (7-16) finished their six-game road trip by being blanked by NC State (15-8, 15- ACC) 11-0 at Dail Softball Stadium on Tuesday, March 12. The Wolfpack scored in every inning before the game was officially called after the middle of the fifth inning via Run-Rule.
NC State's offense was led by Michelle Tarpey, who went 3-for-3 with three RBI, and Ellie Goins, who went 2-for-2 with two home runs and a game-high four RBI. MaKayla Marbury was the other NC State player that recorded a home run.
Two Patriots recorded a hit in the game, both in the top of the third inning. Leadoff hitter
Kamryn Inman (1-1, BB) singled through the left side, and two batters later,
Rachel Warrens (1-2, BB) hit a double in left center.
In that same inning, the Patriots saw their best chance to score in the game. With one out and runners on second and third,
Marlaina Bozek (0-2) hit what was initially ruled to be an RBI sacrifice fly but was later reviewed to be an inning-ending double play, as it was reviewed that
Charlotte Montgomery, the runner on third, left the base prior to the NC State right fielder catching the ball.
The game ended after the top of the fifth inning with NC State having an 11-0 lead over Mason.
