Game Recap: Softball |
CONWAY, S.C. – The George Mason softball team (7-15) lost to Ohio (12-11) and Coastal Carolina (17-6) in the final day of the Beach Chicken Brawl held at St. John Stadium in Conway, S.C. The Patriots dropped all five games in Conway this weekend.

PATRIOT HIGHLIGHTS
  • Maddy Myers went 3-for-3 with one double and one RBI in Game #1 against Ohio

GEORGE MASON 2, OHIO 4
In the first game, the Patriots and Bobcats traded runs in the first inning. Mason would take the lead in the top of the fourth inning, but Ohio would record three runs in the bottom of the fifth to take the lead and ultimately the game.

In the top of the first inning, Rachel Warrens (1-3, R, SB) led off with a single and a stolen base. After she advanced to third on a groundout, Maddy Myers (3-3, 2B, RBI) hit an RBI single to left that scored Warrens.

The Bobcats leveled the game in the bottom of the inning with an RBI double by Shelby Westler that scored Tori O'Brien from third.

Mason retook the lead in the top of the fourth inning. Maddy Myers led the inning off with a double, and Carly Cooper (1 R) would come in as a pinch runner. After Cooper moved to third with a productive Patriot groundout, she scored after Emily Lampela (0-2) reached on a fielder's choice bunt. Lampela would end up on second after the Ohio pitcher committed a throwing error to first. The Patriots would end the inning with a 2-1 lead.

After a scoreless bottom of the fourth and top of the fifth, the Bobcats would take the lead in the bottom of the fifth inning. Cici Keidel hit an RBI double to right center that scored pinch runner Belle Hummel from second. Later in the inning, with Keidel on third and Tori O'Brien on second, a Patriot wild pitch allowed both runners to advance one base and gave the Bobcats a 3-2 lead.

The final run of the inning was scored after Lauren Yuhas reached on a fielder's choice bunt, which allowed Tori O'Brien to score from third.

The score would remain 4-2 in Ohio's favor for the rest of the game.

GEORGE MASON 0, COASTAL CAROLINA 6
In the second game, the Patriots were blanked by the Chanticleers for the second time this weekend. Both Mason and Coastal Carolina held each other scoreless for the first two innings of the game, then the Chanticleers scored three runs in the third, fourth and fifth innings.

In the bottom of the third, Iyanla De Jesus broke the deadlock with an RBI single up the middle. Two more runs would be scored later in the inning (unearned).

In the bottom of the fourth, with runners on first and second, Riley Zana reached on first on a fielding error which allowed another Chanticleer unearned run to score.

The final two runs of the game were scored in the bottom of the fifth inning after Maddy Jennings hit an RBI single and Hope McDonald recorded a groundout RBI when the bases were loaded.

The Patriots broke up the Chanticleer Raelee Brabham's no-hit bid in the top of the sixth inning, when Rachel Warrens (1-2, BB) led off with a single, followed by a Marlaina Bozek (1-3) single. Unfortunately for the Patriots, the late-game rally would be snuffed out with a Chanticleer inning-ending double play.

Coastal Carolina held on to the 6-0 lead until the end of the game.
