FAIRFAX, Va. -  The George Mason women's lacrosse team will wrap up a two-game road swing on Thursday when it takes the short trip to the nation's capital to battle American.
 
The meeting marks the 24th all-time meeting between the two teams, where Mason holds an 18-5 lead in the series. However, the last time the two teams met in 2022, American won in Fairfax, 15-14.
 
The Patriots are off to their best start in program history at 5-0, and the last time out, put on an offensive showcase, putting up 19 goals in a 19-11 victory at Gardner-Webb. The Eagles are on a two-game win-streak and the last time out, downed UMBC 14-11 at home. 
 
PATRIOT POINTS
  • On Monday, graduate student Shannon Tuozzo was tabbed Atlantic 10 Co-Offensive Player of the Week for the first time in her career. The midfielder posted 11 goals, three assists, seven draw controls and six ground balls
  • Tuozzo leads the team with 20 goals, 24 points, eight ground balls and is second with five caused turnovers and 25 draw controls
  • Kate Elam leads the team with seven assists
  • Lauren Distad set a new career-high of 13 draw controls last week against Howard and leads the team with 31 on the season
  • Defensively, Ciara Curtis leads the team with eight ground balls and six caused turnovers
 
SCOUTING THE EAGLES
The Eagles are off to a solid start at 3-2, with a Patriot League game already under their belt. American fell to No. 7 Loyola (Md.) on Feb. 16, but have since won two-straight, with home wins over UMBC and A-10 member George Washington. 
 
Leading the American offense is Reagan Murdoch, who has posted a team-high 12 goals and 14 points, and is the only Eagle with double-digit goals through the first five games. Alyssa Apuzzo has dished out a team-high six assists to go with six goals. 
 
Defensively, Deirdre Brown has caused a team-high seven turnovers and has scooped up a team-best 10 ground balls. Jordan Mitchell has won a team-high 10 draw controls while Hannah Spease and Maddy Spratt have combined for 17 draw controls and 16 goals between them.
 
UP NEXT
The Patriots will open the March slate with a home game against Delaware St. on Monday, March 4. Opening draw with the Hornets is set for 2 p.m. from George Mason Stadium.
