Burke, Va. -- The George Mason University women's tennis team dropped a neutral site match to Delaware State inside the Burke Racquet and Swim Club on Saturday night.
Delaware State won the doubles point to earn the first score of the match, then won four straight matches to win, 5-0, against Mason.
"We lost to a very solid Hornet team who came in with lots of confidence following their win over George Washington," said Coach Curtis. "We showed some strong improvement in some areas but still have a few things to work on."
All the matches were close, including two singles won in the tiebreaker set.
The top two singles matches were won by the same 7-5, 6-4 score.
The middle matches went to the tie-breaker set. Mason's
Cenan Liu won the first set 6-3 before the Hornets Daria Jula took the second, and the tiebreaker, 10-3. After dropping her first set, the Patriots Maitree Rout won the second set, 6-1, but lost the tiebreaker, 10-6.
Mason hosts Atlantic 10 foe Richmond next Saturday at the Burke Racquet and Swim Club.
