Women’s Lacrosse Welcomes Radford to Fairfax

FAIRFAX, Va. – The George Mason women's lacrosse team will open its' home schedule when it welcomes another in-state foe in Radford to George Mason Stadium on Sunday.
 
The Patriots are coming off a thrilling come-from-behind overtime victory on Friday night when they defeated William & Mary, 11-10. Sunday's contest will mark the season opener for the Highlanders.
 
PATRIOT POINTS
  • The Patriots will look to open the season at 2-0 on Sunday for the first time since 2018
  • Three Patriots scored multiple goals on Friday night's opener, led by a hat trick from graduate student Shannon Tuozzo
  • Ciara Curtis led the Mason defense with four caused turnovers and three ground balls
  • Netminder Meghan Deehan played all 64 minutes for the Patriots in the goal, posting seven saves with two ground balls and a turnover
SCOUTING THE OPPONENT
Radford earned its' highest Big South preseason ranking at fifth since being picked fourth in 2021. The team received three points for fourth place, in addition to one point for sixth, three for seventh and two for eighth, totaling 35 points. 

Senior Josie Helpard earned Preseason All-Conference team honors as a defender after appearing in 14 games last season with 12 starts. She registered 19 ground balls and a team-high 30 caused turnovers. Also on defense, Olivia Hunter led the team with 41 ground balls. 

The Highlanders return all three of their top point-scorers from a year ago. Margaret Gleason scored a team-high 45 goals with eight assists and Linley Tirell was second on the team with 28 goals. Ashlyn Grogan tallied an outstanding 30 assists to go with 19 goals and was second on the team with 49 points. Mady Cheny won a team best 51 draw controls.

UP NEXT
Mason will play its' first road game at Kent State on Saturday, Feb. 17. Opening draw with the Golden Eagles is set for 1 p.m.
