FAIRFAX, Va. – George Mason Baseball will host its annual First Pitch Dinner on January 31, 2025 featuring Washington Nationals legend Ryan Zimmerman.

The event is sponsored Sandy Spring Bank and will be held at the Fairfax Country Club beginning at 5:30 p.m.  Proceeds from the event go to support the George Mason baseball program.

Zimmerman played his entire 17-year Major League Baseball career with the Washington Nationals.  Nicknamed "Mr. National", he was selected in the first round with the fourth overall pick by the Nationals in the 2005 MLB Draft and played for the club through the 2021 season.

"I am very excited to have Mr. National himself, Ryan Zimmerman, join us as this year's special guest at the First Pitch Dinner," said Head Coach Shawn Camp. "Ryan set the bar for what it means to be a complete professional on the field and a tremendous ambassador in the community. I was blessed to play against him and witness his loyalty, as he spent his entire career with one team. It was truly special watching Ryan and the Nats bring home the franchise's first World Series."

Zimmerman helped lead the Nationals to the 2019 World Series Championship in a seven-game series against the Houston Astros.  In his first at-bat of the World Series, he hit the first World Series home run in franchise history.

A native of Washington, D.C., Zimmerman grew up in Virginia Beach and attended Kellam High School and went on to play collegiately at the University of Virginia.

A two-time All-Star and two-time Silver Slugger Award winner, Zimmerman also earned the third base Gold Glove Award in 2009. He made his MLB debut at age 20 at RFK Stadium on September 1, 2005 against the Atlanta Braves.

Zimmerman played 1,799 games and finished his MLB career with a .277 batting average, 284 home runs, 1,061 RBI and had a 40.1 wins above replacement (WAR).  He recorded his 1,000th career RBI on July 5, 2019 against the Kansas City Royals.

Among Washington Nationals all-time leaders, Zimmerman ranks first in games played played (1,799), at-bats (6,654), runs scored (963), hits (1,846), home runs (284), doubles (417) and RBI (1,061).  He also ranks in the top-10 in walks (646) and slugging percentage (.475).

Zimmerman's dedication to making a lasting difference beyond the baseball field is reflective through his efforts in the community. The ZiMS Foundation, founded by Zimmerman, focuses on supporting those affected by multiple sclerosis (MS), a cause close to his heart due to his mother's diagnosis with the disease. Since its inception, the foundation has raised millions of dollars to fund research, increase awareness, and provide resources for individuals and families impacted by MS.
