PHILADELPHIA –
The George Mason rowing team continued its fall progress with a host of momentum-building performances at the annual Head of the Schuykill Saturday in Philadelphia.

"It was a successful day in a lot of ways," head coach Joseph Richards said. "A group of our novices had their first ever race and Coach Michael did a great job getting them ready to compete in a short period of time. Our V4s placed well in a very deep field. The second varsity right was happy with the piece they had and they continue to show progress. We're looking forward to our last week on the water for the fall and then a home race on Saturday."

The Varsity 4 boats showcased strong pieces on Saturday. Out of an excellent field of 80 crews, the four boat coxed by freshman Katherine McLain finished a solid 24th in 15:05.218, while the four coxed by sophomore Elene Meurmishvili was 27th in 15:09.623.

Mason's third Varsity 4+ in action placed 73rd in 18:14.233.

The Patriots' Novice 8+ took to the water for the first time in their careers and performed well, placing 23rd in a time of 18:43.377.

Meanwhile, George Mason's 2V8+ finished 42nd in 15:00.176, while the V8+ boat placed 21st in 13:55.128.

Next up for the Patriots, GM hosts the annual Head of the Occoquan on Saturday, November 2 at Sandy Run Regional Park in Fairfax Station, Va.
