Fairfax, Va. -- George Mason University Senior Associate AD, Director of Development Katie Pate announced today that Janard Estell has been named the department's Associate Director of Development, Major Gifts.

Estell comes to Fairfax from Chipola College in Marianna, Florida where he served as a men's basketball assistant coach and the point person to basketball program development. This included strategic initiatives such as securing financial sponsorships, organizing fundraising events, and fostering community partnerships to support the team's operational needs.
Estell played a pivotal role in enhancing athlete development programs, improving training facilities, and increasing team visibility through public relations and marketing efforts. His comprehensive approach helped elevate the team's competitive edge and overall program success.
The Birmingham, Alabama native will be responsible for soliciting major gifts from alumni, parents, and friends of George Mason University to support Athletics.
This role will see him working closely with the Athletics Development Team, ICA senior leadership and staff, volunteers/advisory board members, and coaches. His main focus will be on developing fundraising priorities and strategies that align with the university's goals.
Before his administrative career, Janard played collegiate basketball at Lurleen B. Wallace Community College, later transferring to Troy University where he served as a student manager for the men's basketball team.
Estell holds a B.S. in Hospitality, Sport & Tourism Management from Troy University (2018) and an MBA from Spring Hill College (2020).
