Fairfax - George Mason track and field returns for the 2024 season by traveling to Virginia Beach for the VCU Invitational on January 7th. The Virginia Beach Sports Center will be the same venue where the A10 Indoor Championships will be held. The sports center contains a 200m hydraulic banked track with long/triple jump runways inside the oval and throwing area just outside the oval for spectators.
The meet is scheduled to start at 10 a.m. with the Women's Weight Throw and then the Men's 4x400m Relay will conclude the meet at 4:50 p.m.
The women's track and field team are the current champions for the A10 Outdoor Championships and the goal is to keep that momentum and achieve the A10 Indoor Championships which was last won in 2014. VCU were named the indoor champions in six of the nine editions that have been held since 2014. The men's team last won an indoor championship in 2019 and since then it has been Rhode Island with three straight championships.
There will be 63 student-athletes traveling to Virginia Beach. There will be a mixture of athletes who have had previous experience and there will also be newcomers who will attend their first ever collegiate meet. George Mason also held a Green v. Gold Intersquad Meet where everybody was tested to the limits, be able to measure where they currently stand, and find ways to improve themselves.
