ANNAPOLIS, Md. – The George Mason University men's tennis team picked up two singles wins and a victory in doubles during a 5-2 setback at Navy on Saturday.
In singles, junior
Jacco Arends notched his second-straight singles win with a clutch tiebreaker performance vs. J.J. Etterbeek. Arends won the first set tiebreaker, 7-4, then claimed the second 7-3 to take the victory at No. 3.
Graduate student
Momin Khan also won his second singles match of the dual season with a triumph at No. 4 over Aniketh Ayinala. Khan won the first set, 6-4, fell in the second, 2-6, but responded impressively with a 6-4 win in the third.
In doubles, the No. 1 team of
Monil Lotlikar and
Niza Simunyola won their first match this spring with a 6-4 victory over Luke Garner and Sasha Panyan.
The Patriots had a chance to flip the match and pick up the win, but
Monil Lotlikar at No. 1 and
Zavan Fahim at No. 6 couldn't pull out third set wins for the Green & Gold.
Mason returns to action next Saturday (Feb. 3) with a contest at Mary Washington.
