Richmond, Va. -- The George Mason women's tennis team dropped its spring season opener to Atlantic 10 powerhouse VCU. The Rams (4-0, 1-0) swept the Patriots (0-1, 0-1) by a 6-0 score.

VCU took all three doubles matches for the point. The top doubles team of Emily Wirt and Jenin Alasadi battled hard but were edged 6-4 by the Rams team of Karlova/Valletta.

"The score is not an indication of how well we competed against the top team in the Atlantic 10," said Coach Steve Curtis. "The Rams were more experienced and were tougher on the no-ad points."

The Patriots will travel next to Norfolk, Va. to take on the ACC's Wake Forest Demon Deacons next Saturday at 4 pm.
