FAIRFAX, Va. – The George Mason women's and men's swimming and diving teams conclude the regular season against UMBC on Saturday with the meet scheduled to begin at 1 p.m. at the Aquatic and Fitness Center in Fairfax, Va.
It's the first home meet for Mason since the Patriot Invitational in mid-November.
Last season, the Mason women's team defeated UMBC, 204-94, while the men's team fell to the Retrievers, 173-127, on Jan. 21, 2023 at the UMBC Aquatic Center.
The Mason men's team has a dual record of 3-2 and the women's team has a dual record of 4-4 on the season.
Last time out, the women's team defeated Old Dominion, 137-125, while the men's team fell to the Monarchs, 153.5-108.5 last Saturday in Norfolk, Va.
The women's team won eight events on the day, six individual events and took the top spot in both the 400-yard freestyle relay (3:32.51) and 400-yard medley relay (3:55.02).
Junior
Ali Tyler won three individual events against the Monarchs, with first place finishes in the 50-yard freestyle (24.12), 100-yard IM (59.02) and 50-yard butterfly (26.04). She was a member of the winning 400-yard medley relay along with junior
Emma DeJong, sophomore
Peyton Brehmer and junior
Shannon Judge (3:55.02).
Sophomore
Anka Whelan won both the 50-yard backstroke (27.14) 100-yard backstroke (57.15). Freshman
Kristen Ivey swam to a first-place finish in the 500-yard freestyle (5:15.62).
The men's team won five events, four individual and the 400-yard freestyle relay.
Freshman
Ian Rodgers won the 100-yard butterfly (50.40) and junior
Zane Roberts won the 100-yard freestyle (46.87).
Sophomore
Tate Anderson touched the wall first in the 50-yard freestyle (21.11) and 100-yard backstroke (50.74).
SCOUTING UMBC
UMBC swept Salisbury University and Frostburg State in a tri-meet last Saturday in Baltimore, Md.
The Retrievers women's team defeated Salisbury, 148-57 and topped Frostburg State, 162-43. The UMBC men's team notched a 149-56 win over the Seagulls and a 155-50 victory over the Bobcats.
On the women's side, senior Nyah Stahl won both the 200-yard IM and the 100-yard backstroke. Senior Makaela Hill touched the wall first in the 100-yard freestyle.
On the men's side, senior Daniel Nicusan claimed the 100-yard backstroke and 100-yard breaststroke, senior Bode Neale won the 100-yard freestyle and freshman Nick Bracall took the top spot in both the 200-yard freestyle and 500-yard freestyle.
