Mason's strong fall season featured a number of highlights.
Niza Simunyola,
Zavan Fahim and
Hayden Postin each won flights at the Joe Hunt Invitational in September. Simunyola went a perfect 3-0 in Group 2 of the Red Flight, highlighted by a three-set victory over Tauras Mickus of rival Saint Joseph's (6-3, 4-6, 6-3).
The Patriots also registered a tremendous team showing at the UMW Invite Sept. 10-11, as the Green & Gold combined to go 18-7 in singles and 10-2 in doubles.
Mason will return to Liberty University on Sunday for the first time since October's ITA Regional. At that high-level event, 2023 All-Atlantic 10 selection
Monil Lotlikar partnered with Simunyola became the first Patriots to reach the Sweet 16 of the ITA Regional doubles draw in nearly a decade.
The dynamic Mason duo knocked off the William & Mary team of Raptis/Joseph in thrilling, tie-breaking fashion during the Gold Round of 32. They dominated the tiebreak, 7-2, to advance to the Round of 16. In that match, the Patriots fell to the sixth-seeded Virginia Tech duo of Harper/St-Hilaire.
After this weekend, Mason resumes competition on January 27 with a dual contest at Navy.
