Fairfax, VA. - George Mason will be competing in two separate meets this weekend, one group will travel to Virginia Tech for the Hokie Invitational and the other squad will head over to Lexington to compete in the VMI Team Challenge. The Hokie Invitational will begin on Friday, January 19th and end on Saturday, January 20th. The meet will begin at 4 p.m. on Friday with the Women's Pole Vault being the first event. On Saturday, the first event will be the Women's Pole Vault again (seeded) starting at 11:30 a.m. and the final event to conclude the meet will be at 5 p.m. with the Men's 4x400m Relay. The VMI Invitational will be a one day event held on Saturday, January 20th.
Previous Meet:
The Patriots competed in the Nittany Lion Challenge held by Penn State and came out with new names added to the GMU All-Time list. Michka-Mae Hyde placed her name at third place entering the top 3 fastest times in the 600m dash. Hyde completed the 600m with a time of 1:33.91 and in the same event, Adia Palmer, also entered the list reaching the 10th spot after finishing the 600m with a time of 1:40.59. Makai Lewis completed the 600m (1:21.96) and was fast enough to have his name at 7th all time for the men's 600m. For the 3000m, Kate O'Neill came back into action and completed the race with a time of 9:45.84 which placed her 8th in the All-Time list.
The freshman, Walt Bannerman, started his collegiate career strong by finishing second in the pole vault event but also placing 8th in the history of GMU pole vaulting (4.90m). Abby Weening takes part of the All-Time list for high jump after achieving a jumping height of 1.71m and placing her name at 9th but was also 2nd place for the Nittany Lion Challenge. Other highlights from the meet include Amber Askelson achieving a personal best in pole vault (3.78m) and Geni Roberts securing a first place finish in the triple jump with a mark of 14.76.
