FAIRFAX, Va. – The George Mason wrestling team is ready for a challenging 2023-24 season, its fifth in the Mid-American Conference. The schedule includes 20 duals, with Mason hosting 12 duals in Fairfax.
"We are excited about the schedule this year," said Head Coach
Frank Beasley. "From a dual meet perspective, it will be extremely competitive. We look forward to having Minnesota coming to us this year and they are team that has won multiple NCAA team championships. Virginia Tech is a team that has finished in the top 15 in the country every year for more than a decade."
Prior to the start of the season, the George Mason wrestling team will host wrestle-offs Saturday, October 28 at 5 p.m. in the RAC. Wrestle-offs provide fans a firsthand look at the Patriots 2023-24 roster.
The Patriots will open the season competing at the Citadel Invite on Sunday Nov. 5 in South Carolina.
The annual Mason Duals are slated for Nov. 11. Mason will face the Citadel, conference foe Clarion, Millersville University, and Williams College at the Recreation Athletic Complex (RAC).
The Patriots will host a pair of duals against Morgan State and national powerhouse Minnesota, and celebrate our alumni, on Nov. 18.
Mason will travel to Washington, DC to take on rival American University on Nov. 21. It will be the 35
th meeting between the two programs, with the Eagles owning a slight 18-16 edge in the series. The Patriots have won two straight against the Eagles. AU had a 10-match win straight against the Patriots before the Mason snapped it during the 2021-22 season.
The Patriots will host back-to-back events, with two duals against Davidson and Cleveland State on Saturday, Dec. 2, and its annual ARMS Software Patriot Open, scheduled for Sunday, Dec. 3, in the Field House. The ARMS Software Patriot Classic has turned into a premier event on our campus with about 300 competitors annually.
The team will travel to South Carolina to battle Gardner Webb and Queens University on Thursday, Dec. 21. The Patriots will wrap up the year 2023 at the Midlands Championships, Dec. 29-30.
The Green and Gold will ring in the new year with a match against Power 5 Virginia. Mason will take on the Cavaliers at St. Christopher's School in Richmond for the second straight season.
The team will take on Mid-American Conference schools in four of the five matches in January. The Patriots will host Edinboro (Jan. 13) against Edinboro on Military Appreciation Day and Hofstra (Jan. 14) on Youth Day. The Patriots will be back on the road to face Ohio (Jan. 19), Lock Haven (Jan. 25), and Bloomsburg (Jan. 26).
The Green and Gold open February in Fairfax with a match against Rider (Feb. 2) before traveling to Blacksburg to battle perennial wrestling powerhouse Virginia Tech on Saturday, February 10.
Mason will celebrate Senior Day by hosting Lindenwood on Feb. 18.
The 2023-24 regular season will wrap up with a dual at Rider (2/17) and a tournament at Franklin & Marshall on Feb. 19. The 2023-24 regular season will wrap up with the Patriot Last Chance Open Tournament at home on Feb. 25.
The MAC Championships will be held on the campus of Kent State, March 8-9.
The NCAA Championships are slated for Mar. 21-23 at the T-Mobile Center in Kansas City,
Missouri.
