Fairfax, Va. – The George Mason men's golf team stands in third place going into the final round of the Red Bandanna Invitational held at the Turning Stone Resort in Verona, N.Y. Host Boston College and West Virginia are the only teams ahead of the Patriots in the 15-team tournament.
After scoring a team +11 in the opening round, the Green & Gold cut five strokes in the afternoon round to finish (+17) overall on the Par 72, 7,065-yard course. Boston College leads the event with a two-round (+5).
Three Patriots are in the top-15 in the filed of 84 golfers.
In his first collegiate competition, freshman JJ Powell is tied for 8th overall after scoring one-over-par 73s in each round. He is tied with two players, and two strokes back of seventh place.

Nikita Gubenko (76-72=148) and sophomore
Aryan Vuradi (73-75=148) are not far behind with four-over-par scores after 36 holes. Gubenko turned in the best round for Mason today with a even-par 72 in the second round.
Samir Davidov rounds out the Patriots scoring with a (77-74=151), standing in 23rd heading into the final round.
The two-day, 54-hole tournament wraps up Monday with 18 holes.
