College Park, Md. -- The Mason women's tennis team had a successful weekend at the Bedford Cup hosted by the University of Maryland at the Junior Tennis Champions Center.
 
Eight local programs participated in the three-day event that included seven singles flights and two doubles flights. Mason won three of the singles flights and earned runners-up in two flights.
 
Patriots Ruju Chauhan, Maitree Rout and Lakshya Motam won their respective flights while Cenan Liu and Lauren Splett were runners-up.
 
Two Patriots squared off in the finals of the Maryland Flight with Chauhan defeating teammate Liu in the 3rd set tiebreaker. That is Chauhan's second consecutive flight win following her showing at the Moore Invitational two weeks ago.
 
Rout defeated Stefanie Moysiadi of Morgan State to take the Yellow Flight while Motam was victorious over Lillian Langhus (Loyola, MD) to win the White Flight.
 
In the championship match of the Red Flight Splett fell to GW's Solange Sweeney's in two sets.
 
In the doubles flights Emily Wirt and Jenin Alasadi won the West with a victory over the top doubles team from Loyola, Olivia Tracey and Liza Tankimovich.
 
Mason's team of Chauhan and Rout won the North Flight while Splett and Brooklyn Siegel won the Northwest Flight.
 
"I was pleased with our team efforts this weekend," said Head Coach Steve Curtis. "The players had to deal with lots of adversity with long delays and tough opponents. We are a very young team that has tremendous potential. Now we have to continue to work on strengthening other parts of our game in order to make sure we achieve that goal."
