ANNAPOLIS, Md. – The George Mason University men's tennis team continued its hot start to the fall season with a strong all-around performance at the Joe Hunt Invitational on the campus of the United States Naval Academy.
 
The Patriots went 16-14 overall in singles and 8-7 in doubles over the weekend in a field which included a number of quality opponents.
 
Simunyola went a perfect 3-0 in Group 2 of the Red Flight, highlighted by a three-set victory over Tauras Mickus of rival Saint Joseph's (6-3, 4-6, 6-3).
 
Fahim also won three contests in Group 2 of the White Flight. He cruised to a 6-1, 6-2 victory over Navy's Aaron Gu and also took down Fairfield's Calum Jessett in a marathon three-set affair (3-6, 7-6 (7-4), 6-3).
 
Postin improved to a sizzling 6-0 to start his fall singles campaign. He earned wins over opponents from Fairfield, Navy and St. Bonaventure in Group 1 of the Orange Flight.
 
Elsewhere, sophomore Monil Lotlikar picked up two wins in the top Navy Flight, including a 6-3, 6-3 triumph over Fairfield's Sam Hodges. In addition graduate student Herman Jentoft also claimed a pair of victories in the Purple Flight.
 
On the doubles circuit, junior Jacco Arends and sophomore Alvaro Pedraza earned two victories in the strong Navy Flight, including wins over Navy and Fairfield. Through two tournaments, the dynamic Mason duo has tallied a 5-1 doubles mark.
 
In addition, Lotlikar and Simunyola went 2-1 for the second-straight week, picking up wins against foes from Navy and St. Bonaventure.
 
Freshman Rayan El khalifi also paired with Postin to tally two doubles wins on the weekend.
 
The Patriots are now off until Oct. 6-8, when Mason heads to Richmond for the River City Tennis Open.
