FAIRFAX, Va. – George Mason University rowing head coach Joseph Richards announced Friday that Marie Michael ('22) will rejoin the program as an assistant coach this season.

Michael competed for the Patriots for four seasons from 2018-22.

"I'm so excited to welcome Marie to our coaching staff," Richards said. "She was an outstanding student-athlete on our team during her undergraduate career and I'm sure she's going to be a great mentor for the next generation of George Mason student-athletes."

During her time on the water with the Green & Gold, Michael competed in both the Varsity 8+ and Second Varsity 8+ boats. She earned the program's Linmarie Martin Row Model Award in 2022, which is given annually to a student-athlete who makes a tremendous impact on the program through their leadership and team spirit.

"It means a lot to myself and to our team to have an alum come back to serve as a coach, especially when that person had as distinguished a career at Mason as Marie did," Richards said. "I'm looking forward to working with Marie in her new capacity on our staff."
