FAIRFAX, Va. — George Mason golf is well represented at the 110
th Virginia State Golf Amateur Championship, being played this week at Boonsboro Golf Club in Lynchburg.
Two current team members and two alumni of the George Mason golf team advanced to match play, which consisted of 32 individuals.
After two rounds of stroke play and two rounds of match play, rising sophomore
Samir Davidov has advanced to the quarterfinals. The Roanoke native will play Bobb Dudek II on Thursday, June 29.
The semi-finals will be played in the afternoon, with the championship match scheduled for Friday, June 30.

Aryan Vuradi each qualified for match play with a two-round 3-under-par 137 at the par 70, 6,787-yard course, and finished tied for eighth place in stroke play.
Seeded No. 8 and 9, the current Patriots met each other in the Sweet 16 after winning their first match play round. The teammates battled through 17 holes before Davidov won the match, 2 up.
A member at Roanoke Country Club, Davidov took an early 3 up lead winning the first three holes and five holes overall on the front nine. Down four, Vuradi won holes 14-16 to cut the lead to 1 up before Davidov birdied the 17
th hole to win the match.
Patriot alumni Jimmy Delp and Scott Shingler also qualified for match play with one-under par 139. Delp, a member at nearby Laurel Hill Golf Course, played for the Green and Gold for three seasons (1997-2000). A member at Dominion Valley Country Club, Shingler played three seasons at Mason (1993-95). He was the 2011 VSGA Amateur Champion.
In the round of 32, Davidov defeated Luke Libbey on his home course, 3&2.
Current Patriot Vuradi defeated alum Shingler (1 up) to advance to the round of 16. Shingler was 2 up at the turn, but Vuradi won three of the first four holes on the back nine to tie it up before taking hole #17 with a birdie.
Delp was 2 up at the turn in his round of 32 match before Rui Chang of Birdwood Golf at Boars Head Resort won four of the next six holes to win 2 & 1.
