Fairfax, Va. – George Mason University women's tennis coach Steve Curtis has announced five new student-athletes for the Patriots' 2023-24 incoming class.
The class includes graduate transfer Ruju Chauhan, and four freshmen, including two Virginia natives Lakshya Motam and Alisa Orsinger, as well as Cena Liu and Brooklyn Siegel.
"I am very excited to add such quality players for the upcoming season", commented Coach Curtis. "As our program improves our expectations also rise. This incoming class will have some big shoes to fill, and I believe they are up to that challenge."
Chauhan comes to Mason from Prairie View A&M University where she was a member of the women's tennis team. She recently graduated with a B.S. degree in Kinesiology. She will be working toward her M.S. in Kinesiology at Mason.
A native of India, Chauhan was selected to the 2021 SWAC Women's Tennis All-Conference Team. In 2022, she earned a spot on the conference all-tournament team. She is a two-time ITA All-Academic Honor (2021, 2022) and conference honor roll recipient.
Motam is a local Fairfax native who attended high school at Grandview Preparatory in Boca Raton, Florida. The incoming freshman is a four-star player who was nationally ranked inside the top 190 and top 5 in Virginia, according to TR.net. She was awarded both the USTA Sportsmanship Award and the USTA Engagement Award.
Orsinger attended Acelius Academy in nearby McLean. Orsinger has been a four-star recruit that has been ranked as high as 140 in the country, and as high as No. 4 in Virginia, according to TR.net. The native of Springfield selected Mason over several Virginia schools, including Virginia Tech, William & Mary, Liberty, and JMU.
Liu is a native of Markham, Ontario. She graduated from St. Augustine's Catholic School after attending Thornhill Secondary School for three years. The native Canadian played for Team Canada. According to TR.net, Liu earned her four-star player status while living and training in Texas. She has been nationally ranked inside the top 130 and the top 15 in Texas.
Incoming freshman Brooklyn Siegel, a three-star athlete, competed in tennis at Wolcott College Prep in Chicago. She earned First Team All-State Singles Award from the Illinois High School Coaches Association three straight years (2020, 21, 22). Academically, she was a member of the National Honor Society. A two-year captain for the Wolves, Siegel earned Team MVP honors all four years and was the 2022 Wolcott College Prep Fall Athlete of the Year. Qualifying for the state tournament in all four seasons, Siegel finished second in 2022 and third in 2021.
