ARLINGTON, Va. – The George Mason baseball team completed a three-game sweep over George Washington with a 9-5 win on Sunday afternoon at Barcroft Park in Arlington, Va.

The Patriots have won five straight games and 10 of their last 13.

Sophomore first baseman Reece Woody had four hits, drove in a pair of runs and scored three runs.

Mason (27-22, 12-8 A10) took the lead against George Washington (18-34, 8-12 A10) junior starter Christopher Kahler in the top of the second.

Sophomore catcher Connor Dykstra and Woody led off the inning with back-to-back infield singles.  After a sacrifice bunt by senior second baseman Brett Stallings moved the runners into scoring position, sophomore left fielder Alex Knapp delivered a two-run single up the middle to put the Patriots in front, 2-0.

The Patriots have scored the first run in six of their last seven games.

Mason redshirt freshman starter Konner Eaton and graduate student Nolan Lamere each pitched two scoreless innings before the Colonials got on the board in the bottom of the fifth.

With one out, Lamere issued consecutive walks before the Patriots summoned graduate student Kyle Smith from the bullpen.  After a single loaded the bases, Colonials graduate student second baseman Hoah Levin plated a run with a sacrifice fly to center and junior shortstop Bryan Belo singled through the left side to drive in another run to tie the game 2-2.

The Colonials took the lead in the bottom of the sixth when senior third baseman Robby Wacker hit a two-out, two-run home run over the left field fence to make it a 4-2 game.

The Patriots scored seven unanswered runs over the final three innings to take control.

With two outs in the top of the seventh, sophomore shortstop Carsen Pracht singled, stole second and advanced to third on an error.  Senior designated hitter South Trimble came through with a double to right-center to pull the Patriots within a run, 4-3.

Junior center fielder Jordan Smith was hit by a pitch and scored when Dykstra ripped a double down the left field line to even the score at 4-4.  Woody then dropped down a perfect bunt, with Dykstra scoring all the way from second on an error to give the Patriots the lead for good, 5-4.

After a pitching change, Stallings put down a sacrifice bunt to move Woody into scoring position and Knapp then drove in his third run of the game with a single back up the middle to increase the advante to 6-4.

Knapp would move to second on an error and to third on a wild pitch before freshman third baseman Evan Blanchard drove in a run with a sacrifice bunt to make it 7-4.

In the top of the ninth, Dykstra was hit by a pitch and Woody doubled to the gap in left-center to pad the lead to 8-4.  The Colonials made another pitching change for freshman Max Haug.  Stallings then singled and Knapp was hit by a pitch to load the bases.  After a pop out, Pracht plated a run with a fielder's choice ground out to make it 9-4.
