LEWISBERRY, Pa. – The George Mason University rowing team saw things fall into place Saturday morning during a tremendous day of racing across the board at the Gifford Pinchot Sprint Regatta.
The Patriots took part in lake racing just outside Harrisburg and saw all three boats post top-3 finishes in their respective events. That's stellar racing leading into the biggest regatta of the season on May 12.
"All of our boats had maybe the best race they've had all season today," head coach
Joseph Richards said. "We continue to make progress week to week. I'm excited to see what we can put together in a couple weeks at A-10s."
Mason's Varsity 4+ earned the silver medal in its race, placing second overall in 8:07. That pushed the Patriots ahead of five teams in its competition.
Elsewhere, in eights action, Mason raced both a Varsity 8+ and a Second Varsity 8+ boat.
The Varsity 8+ earned the silver medal in its regatta while putting together a fast race of 6:51, just five seconds behind champion Lafayette.
The Second Varsity 8+ finished behind its Mason counterpart in a strong time of 7:08 to garner bronze. That placed the Patriots ahead of both Lafayette and Susquehanna.
Next up for the Green & Gold, Mason caps the 2023 campaign with the Atlantic 10 Championship in Saratoga Springs, N.Y., on Friday, May 12.
