Mason Wraps Up Regular Season at No. 13 UMass

FAIRFAX, Va. – The George Mason women's lacrosse team will wrap up the 2023 regular season on the road this weekend when it travels to nationally-ranked UMass on Saturday.
 
The Minutewomen have won all nine meetings, dating back to Mason's first season in the Atlantic 10 in 2014. Last season in Amherst, UMass was victorious over the Patriots, 19-7.
 
Massachusetts is undefeated in Atlantic 10 competition, with their most recent win coming over Saint Joseph's, 15-13. Their only loss on the season is to No. 3 Boston College in February, 16-6. Meanwhile, the Patriots fell to VCU this past weekend, 16-9 and sit at 2-6 in conference play on the season.

  • Senior Shannon Tuozzo netted her ninth hat trick of the season and fifth-straight against VCU while dishing out a career-high matching two assists
  • Sophomore Lauren Distad won a career-high and game-high 11 draw controls on the day, her first double-digit performance of her career. She sits at second on the team with 52 wins in 2023
  • Senior Chloe Reed made her return to the lineup and joined junior Kate Elam and classmate Morgan Gunn in a trio that scored two goals a piece
  • Defensively, senior goalkeeper Meghan Deehan made 12 saves, bring her career total to 402. She is now sixth all-time in program history in career saves
 
SCOUTING THE MINUTEWOMEN
The Atlantic 10's top offense and defense, Massachusetts scores 23.67 points per game (15.67 goals, 8.00 assists) while allowing just 7.9 goals per game for a margin of +7.7. Leading the offense in Fiona McGowan who leads the Minutewomen with 69 points and 36 assists (1st, A-10). Her 4.6 points/game and 2.4 assists per game also put her atop the conference.
 
Charlotte Wilmouth ranks first on the team and eighth in the conference with 2.53 goals/game and Alex Finn is second on the team with 64 points, 34 goals and 30 assists. Amy Mareau is the fourth player on the team with 30+ goals and is second on the team with 49 draw controls.
 
Jordan Dean is first on the team and second in the conference with 6.93 draw controls per game (104 total) while Audra Tosone leads the defense with 44 ground balls (2nd, A-10) and 36 caused turnovers (2nd, A-10).
 
In net, Gina Carroll and Catrina Tobin have split time evenly with graduate student Carroll starting every game this season. Carroll boasts an 8.92 goals against average with a .375 save percentage with 12 ground balls and two caused turnovers. Tobin has allowed just 6.94 goals per game with .475 save percentage while scooping up seven ground balls.
