Fairfax, Va. -- The George Mason University women's tennis team will travel to Orlando, Florida to compete at the 2023 Atlantic 10 Tennis Championships, April 27-30, at the USTA National Campus.
Mason enters the tournament as the No. 8 seed, its highest seed since joining the conference in 2014. The Patriots (10-6, 2-3 A10) will open the tournament against ninth-seeded Saint Louis (17-6, 2-1) on Thursday, April 27 at 9:00 am. The winner of the match will face top-seeded VCU in the Friday quarterfinals at 9:00 am.
Mason is 2-3 in the league, with victories over George Washington and Saint Louis. The Patriots defeated the Billikens, 4-3, in a match at the PTR Springfest in Hilton Head, S.C.
At the top,
Paige La returned for another outstanding season, her fourth straight at No. 1 singles. The senior finished 12-9 in singles action and 14-12 in doubles at No. 1 with grad student
Taylor Garcia, including 9-7 in dual action.
In her first season with the Patriots, grad student
Taylor Garcia led the team with 15 wins (15-9) from the second position. She enters the championship with a 10-5 record in dual action.
Emily Wirt earned dual action wins from the No. 2 and No. 3 singles positions. Wirt emerged into the starting lineup this year at the #3 position and #2 doubles positions. Emily is 7-8 in singles and 8-8 in doubles paired with
Jenin Alasadi in dual action.
Returning for a fifth season,
Jackie Nannery played the majority of her matches at No. 4 singles, finishing with a 9-11 record. She has more than 100 wins in her career at Mason.
Senior
Ashley Fitz-Patrick led the way with an 12-9 record in No. 4 through No. 6 singles matches, including 4-2 at No. 5. Sophomore
Lauren Splett was 5-2 from the No. 6 slots in dual action. Splett and Nannery own a 10-8 record, 8-7 in dual action.
The semifinals are scheduled for Saturday at 9:00 am with the championship finale slated for Sunday morning at 11:00 am, the latter of which will broadcast live on ESPN+, the home for live Atlantic 10 action.

USTA website's Playsight system, which allows viewers to select the court they wish to watch. Admission will be free for the A-10 Championships.
