FAIRFAX STATION, Va. – The George Mason University rowing team hosted the annual Mason Invite Sunday morning and welcomed some strong programs from across the country to compete in the annual regatta.
 
Mason competed against programs including West Virginia, Villanova, Dayton and Jacksonville.
 
"Thanks to all the teams who came out to the Mason Invite this year," head coach Joseph Richards said. "It was another great day or racing. I was impressed with the quality and competitiveness of all of the teams as well as the sportsmanship they displayed throughout the day. I want to congratulate all the coaches and student-athletes involved."
 
The Patriots' Varsity 8+ finished sixth in its morning heat in a time of 7:35.50, then improved that time by nearly 10 seconds while finishing fifth in the petite final (7:26.60).
 
The Second Varsity 8+ placed fifth in its heat (8:10.00), then advanced to the petite final where the Patriots also finished fifth (8:31.80).
 
Elsewhere, Mason's Varsity 4+ finished sixth in its opening heat (10:10.90), then improved by more than 45 seconds in its petite final race (9:22.90).
 
Next up, Mason competes in its penultimate race of the season at the Gifford Pinchot Sprint Regatta on Saturday (April 29) in Lewisberry, Pa.
